How do I use parental controls to lock original videos on my PS3?

I have several videos I’ve downloaded from the internet and from YouTube, and I want to keep them on my PS3 for easier access. The videos have lots of swearing and body humour, so I’d rather my little brother stay away from them. I’ve noticed that you can only restrict videos and games that are downloaded from the PlayStation Store, so I need to find a way to do it with “normal” videos.

  1. I’ve never had to set parental controls and I don’t have any videos to try it for myself, but I’m curious:

Did you select the video itself and see if there was a way to restrict it that way? With the video highlighted, tap Triangle for the video options and see if you can do anything there.

Otherwise I’m at a loss as I’ve tried researching it and only find the standard parental control guides from the manual.

  2. While in the XMB go to Settings > Security Settings and select 1 of 6 options! NOTE: Password is set for 0000 factory default settings! Change the password that is required to access restricted content. The old password must be entered before a new one may be set. Be sure to record the new password as it is required to change Security Settings in the future, including all of the Parental Controls listed below.

    BD Parental Control

Note: A password is required to change this setting.

Set the level of restriction for Blu-ray Disc (BD) movie content. Note that not all Blu-ray movies are compatible with this setting. Options include:

    Do Not Restrict (Off)

Play any BD regardless of parental control level.

    Restrict (On)

Only play BDs with the specified parental control level.

After [Restrict (On)] is set, you can select an age restriction on the next screen. Note that the lower the value, the greater the restriction.

    BD/DVD Parental Control Region Code

Note: A password is required to change this setting.

Set a region as a basis for Blu-ray movie parental control levels. Note, this setting determines the level of restriction for Blu-ray or DVD movies on the PS3 system; it does not determine what region Blu-ray or DVD movies will be playable on the system. Options include:

    United States

The default value is set as “United States” and this sets standard parental control levels for the United States.

    Other

This sets standard parental control levels for other regions. If you select [Other] you can select a region on the next screen.

    DVD Parental Control

Note: A password is required to change this setting.

Set the level of restriction that will be applied to DVD movie playback. If a DVD movie is being played that is restricted, the password will be required to be entered in order for the movie to play. The level of a DVD is set by the publisher and therefore the DVD parental control levels on the PS3 does not correspond to a specific movie rating. Note that not all DVD movies are compatible with this setting. Options include:

    Off

Play any DVD regardless of parental control level.

    Level 8 – 1

Only play DVDs with the specified parental control level.

Note: the lower the value, the greater the restriction.

    Parental Control

Note: A password is required to change this setting.

Set the level of restriction that will be applied to Games and other content. If a game is being played that is restricted, the password will be required to be entered in order for the movie to play. The level of a game or other content is set by the publisher and therefore the parental control levels on the PS3 does not correspond to a specific ESRB rating. Note that not all games are compatible with this setting. Options include:

    Off

Play any game regardless of parental control level.

    Level 11 – 1

Only play games with the specified parental control level.

Note: the lower the value, the greater the restriction.

    Internet Browser Start Control

Note: A password is required to change this setting.

This will restrict access to the Internet Browser via password protection. Options include:

    On

Start Control is enabled – password is required to launch the PS3 Internet Browser

    Off

Start Control is disabled – Internet Browser can be used without password

See Parental Controls for the Internet Browser for more information about the Start Control and Internet Browser security.

  3. you shouldn’t keep your naughty vids on the PS3,that is where we have these things called PC where you can hide that kind of content.

  4. Hi,

I found a free download of Max Payne 2 here: [url is not allowed]

it’s the full version, avaiable for free! very fast to install

This download is the second release of the Max Payne saga. In Max Payne 2 the storyline has changed a bit: your character wakes up in a hospital being quite wounded, and immediately after he is discharged, he is attacked again and a friend of him is being shot too.

    Give it a try.
