Mirror’s Edge 2 will be a continuation of the story line from the first Mirror’s Edge featuring the protagonist Faith, but a new back story is promised in the new version. The basic plot involves Faith, who is transmitting messages while avoiding Utopian government surveillance. Faith must find her way through an urban environment and defeat many adversaries along the way with only hand to hand combat. Combat is not the prime objective though, but finding the easiest and fastest way to fulfill the task is the objective of this game. The type of action is influenced by parkour which is a type of military obstacle course. She carries no weapons but with the right moves she can disarm enemy weapons and use them.
Mirror’s Edge differs from other first person games in that the graphics displayed are what she would actually be seeing. Other games would show the character rolling from a fixed perspective. In Mirrors Edge the camera angle follows the roll as she would see it, giving a true immersive experience for the player as if they were actually rolling. The sequel will feature new moves like going around corners while running on walls by using pipes to hold. She will also be able to take out enemies directly by jumping from walls and ledges. The story line will also play a more important roll.
The release date is not official but there has been much speculation as to when it will be ready. Many online retailers are selling pre-orders for the anticipated game. The original announcement for the sequel was during the June, 2013 E3. The target release date is sometime in 2016. Some are predicting before March but this is not official.
Mirror’s Edge 2 will be available on all compatible platforms such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It will not be compatible on old generation platforms or tablets and most laptops. The original Mirror’s Edge had an Android app but it did not have all of the features. The new version will probably have an app sometime after the release.
Mirror’s Edge 2 will use the Frostbite 3 game engine. The minimum system requirements should be as follows: CPU; Celeron E1500 Dual-Core 2.2GHz or Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+. GPU; GeForce GT 330 or Radeon HD 3600 Series. 2 GB Ram. Direct X DX 9. 10 GB hard drive free space.
