We have 3 PS3’s in the house & mine all of a sudden said something about an error and wouldn’t let me get online so I restored it and lost all of my games & now it wont even let me use it at all. Has this happened to anyone else?

  1. This is happening to everybody who owns an older PS3 (not the Slim models). Do not panic.

Your console’s date has reverted back to December 31, 1999 (Y2K anyone) and is causing various problems including inability to access PSN and errors playing off-line games. The best thing to do is to leave the console turned off for now until Sony can figure out a way to fix the problem.

The source of the problem goes back to the original PS3 hardware/firmware that handles date logic. Even people who have never connected their PS3 to the Internet are experiencing the problem. The issue is NOT related to the PSN network itself or any recent firmware updates that people have been suggesting (this is misinformation floating around).

Unfortunately, this is not good news, because it means it will be much harder to fix. If the source of the problem is really the hard built-in logic on the motherboard of the console, it could be very difficult to fix. i.e. it could mean having to manually re-flash or replace an actual read-only-memory (ROM) chip inside the console. In this worst case scenario, Sony might have to recall all PS3 PHAT consoles.

  2. I heard that it will be up at 10, what happened was that it went down. I don’t know what happened but it’s down.

  3. I have been having this issue since last night around 1800 EST. Do you have an original PS3, ie the black shiny one? I do, and they are saying those systems are the only effected ones?!?! I have no answer as to when it will be remedied. Check my source for more updates Attrel – PSN
