Can Xbox 360’s work without an Internal Hard Drive, but with an External Hard Drive?

My friend bought a 4 GB Xbox bundle (Slim I believe) and we can’t play online due to him not being packed with a hard drive.I’m guessing he has around 2.9 GB’s of space used up due to updates alone. So, I was wondering, would it be possible for his Xbox to function without a Microsoft branded Internal Hard Drive, but with an External Hard Drive that you can plug up to a computer. I know Xbox 360’s has some compatibility with thumb drives and External HDs. Please, help my friend. If it’s not enough info I will be happy to give more info if possible.

  1. XBOXs won’t work with an HDD plugged in. I believe thumb drives work. Try getting a 32 or 64GB thumb drive.
