In the MGS series, Metal Gear Ray is by far the most epic and powerful of all the weapons in the game. When I saw weapons, I mean anything that has the destructive ability, and the fact that Metal Gear Ray is basically a giant, walking mobile nuclear missile launcher with a laser cannon and rocket launcher means that it’s potentially pretty destructive.
For the uninitiated, MGS is the best-selling video game series from Konami. The series revolves around Solid Snake, a kind of super-spy with advanced sneaking abilities. Throughout the series he encounters several different enemies, each who seem to have some kind of a plan to destroy the world using nuclear missiles. However, a secret kind of weapon has been created – called Metal Gear Rex, which is like a giant robot that can walk, meaning it can get to virtually any location on the earth to launch a nuke from.
In MGS2, Metal Gear Ray is the second-coming of this deadly weapon, and is an updated version of the model seen in the first game. Ray almost resembles a dinosaur, and is by far superior to Rex. In fact, it was designed to hunt and destroy other Metal Gears using its powerful laser that can cut through almost anything.
Ray is more natural than any of the other previous models, and has been streamlined to allow it to swim through water. Due to a superior design, it can also move far more freely than Rex ever could. The first time we see Ray is during the Tanker chapter of MGS2, at the very start of the game. At the time it is believed not to be fully completed, but when after Ocelot hijacks it’s true strength is revealed.
