360 won’t read discs?

So, I turn on my 360, and I’m taken to the Dashboard normally. I put in a game disk (the disks are perfectly clean and unscratched) and the Dashboard says “Reading Disk.” as it always does when you put in a new disk. At this point my 360 starts to make a whirring noise, repeating constantly, like something trying to start up. Then the noise stops and instead of ‘reading disk’ it says “Open Tray” as though there wasn’t a disk in there. No error messages, just that.

Anyone know what the problem may be? It was working just fine the last few days.

  1. My xbox was done the same thing. Take out the disk, unplug the power cord, stand the xbox on its side. Plug the power cord back in. Open your disc tray. once the tray is open all the way, push the close button and give the tray a LIGHT shove, back into the xbox. The “whirring” should happen again but with a different tone to it. This resets the disk drive. Try it 3 or 4 times then try the disk again. If it doesn’t work, repeat the shoving while the xbox is flat. Hope this helps.

  2. If I were you I would take the disks out and get it repaired. My 360 had the same problems but if I left the disk in too long a circular scratch would appear near the edge of my disk. I don’t know if this is the same but my xbox killed 3 disks this way so I would just try to get it repaired.

  3. your dvd drive is dead, you’ll need a new one.

find someone locally to do the repair for you (it should be around $50) and make sure they replace the old dvd drive with a new one of the same brand or you’ll be flagged and banned later on.

if you can’t find someone locally email me, and we can work something out.

  4. The disk may not look scratched but by the details you give, I’m almost 100% sure that it is. However if it does this with all your games then you have an xbox hardware issue that will need to be resolved with microsoft.
